…a few other notes…please read

Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has added Zephyr Squash and ‘Easter Egg’ Radishes, Rainbow Carrots, Cucumbers and Tomatoes to their offerings this week. There are also a number of specials from Heritage Farm!

This past week, Greg let me know that the processor for his Beef products had a glitch in their software that controls the printing of the labels as meat is weighed on the scale. The FDA had changed some parameters for the processor and although the processor’s label would print, he was unable to print labels for Heritage Farm. Obviously, packaging could not STOP in order for this glitch to be remedied. The Beef Products that you receive may have a label that says: Processed by (IN TEENY TINY LETTERS) Wilson Farm Meat Processing (IN LARGE LETTERS)! The label does make it appear that the product is from Wilson Farm; however, you can be assured that the meat is from Heritage Farm and is of the excellent quality we all know to expect! If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 404-432-4337.

Don’t forget your Bakery goodies! My Daily Bread offerings include all types of Organic Bakery products. In addition, Dabrielle makes some dynamite Cheese Spreads and Dips! She also has some delicious, plump and juicy Blackberries listed this week. These will not be around long, so grab them this week. Also, remember that My Daily Bread will be on vacation next week! Stock up!

For the Gluten Free crowd, No Gluten Inc. has you covered with Breads, Cakes, Cheesecakes, Cookies, Rolls, Snack Bars, Bakery Mixes and Sweet Breads! Be sure and check out our Bakers! Just like our Growers, our Bakers are truly the ‘cream of the crop’!

That is all I have for now… please get your orders in so we can meet minimums this week!

Please know that we appreciate the support of Crossfit PURE for the use of the great space for Market. We are grateful for you and for your support of our dedicated, LOCAL Farmers/Growers and Artisans.

Fountain Fresh Dairy LLC:  Market Closed

Hello everyone!
We are closing the market for now as some things in the garden are finished producing and others haven’t really started yet. Hopefully we will be back open in a few weeks. Hope you all are enjoying your summer so far!

DeForest, WI:  Availability for the week of June 26

The Market will show several items at “ZERO” because we may or may not have them on Friday. With the Heat on Saturday and Sunday and the rain out here at Forest Run Farm we will have quite a growth spurt going on. We are happily awaiting Cucumbers and Zucchini as there are plenty flowering as we speak.

If you are interested in those items, please leave a comment in your order and we will pack them if available.

The Market is open!

Princeton Farm Fresh:  The Market is Open

As Hannah and I sit here in UK orientation, I am in awe of all these bright eager faces that have come together to live, learn and figure out their new lives together. I have to say that I am not missing living in a big city. I already miss my Princeton, my hometown that I chose and that the residents of this lovely town have welcomed me to with open arms. There is nothing like visiting a big city that makes you love your small town. I can’t wait to get back to the farm.
See you all at the traditional and online farmers market at the end of this week.
Angela

Conyers Locally Grown:  Available for Friday July 1

Hello, I hope this finds you all doing well. The market is open and ready for orders. We will see you Friday at Copy Central between five and seven to pick up your orders. Thank you for all your support, all your prayers, and all your well wishes through this trying time.

Brady

Champaign, OH:  US Blues

Red and white, blue suede shoes, I’m Uncle Sam, how do you do?
(US Blues-Grateful Dead)

Happy Monday, little local market of love customers!!

As you can see by my pick of songs, today, we are quickly approaching the 4th of July holiday, next Monday!! This is always my song to play for this celebration.

I once read an interview with Bob Weir, and he explained the references in this song to all be of the most respectful. And, if you followed The Grateful Dead, then, or if you are tuned into their music, now, you will note that Uncle Sam is a recurring character in their tales of songs. They have quite a cast of characters that they weave, in and out, of their songs, each song referring back, to another song or lyric, and reworking that character, into the woven words, of the different songs.

Just like the cast of characters (and, I use the term, characters, in a very loving way) of this market. We have the cast of vendors. We have the cast of customers. We have the stage crew who sets the stage, with the staff of the YMCA, and we have the two at the helm, your two market managers. This entire cast of characters all come together to weave your songs of local goodness, of market loyalty, of ever changing products, seasons, and stories.

Without a cast of characters, this little local market of love would have no life. It would be blue. It would be flat. It would never have evolved. We need each and every one of you to be a part of this cast of characters. Our Local Merry Makers. Our own band.

With this, and now the US Blues song implant, think about all that you will need for your July 4th celebrations. Keep in mind, that the market closes, tomorrow night, and your pick up is on Thursday. That means, this is the market you will need to place those orders, before the weekend!

Come on…join our cast of characters, sing our song, join our band…

Thanks for being a part of us!

Cosmic Pam
Leader of the band…

Market News

It’s too hot to fish, and too hot to come up with anything entertaining for this week’s email. Instead, I’ll just open the gates and let you see firsthand everything our growers are offering. It’s so hot, they’ve even listed the first okra of the season!

Thanks so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

The Athens Farmers Market is open on Saturdays at Bishop Park and Wednesday afternoons downtown at Creature Comforts. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market from the Athens Land Trust is open Saturday mornings and Wednesdays from 11am-2pm in the atrium at St. Mary’s Hospital. They have a website too. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open for the season on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!
