Farmer of the Week

I am pleased to welcome Jay Parsons of Dances With Bees as our Farmer of the Week at the Lilburn Market this Thursday. Jay is a Certified Natural Bee Keeper and his hives are located in Gwinnett and Habersham counties. Their hives are all qualified as Certified Naturally Grown. Jay offers a variety of different honey with my favorite being Gallberry! I also adore the Chiptole BBQ Honey and the Creamed Honey. Patti, Jay’s wife makes scrubs, salves, lip balms and candles utilizing Jay’s Honey and Beeswax. Be sure when you pick up your order to stop and meet Jay! He is a wealth of knowledge and enjoys sharing!

Champaign, OH:  Look Of Love

That’s the look that’s the look… Sisters and Brothers…
that’s the look that’s the look… should help each other…
(ABC-Look Of Love)

I remember being a club kid back in the early 80s. This song would be on overdrive, lights flashing, lots of groovy dance moves, lots of bad 80s fashion. But, what a fun time it was!! The excitement, the adrenaline, the non-stop energy…

Much like our own look of love on the local front!! It is an exciting time to be a part of this local movement!! It is an exciting week as we prepare for the upcoming State Of The Plate!! Our local faces will all be on display, products will be used in all dishes for the lunch, our local speakers will have their 15 minutes of fame, we will embrace the amazing local love! We hope to spread the excitement, we hope to introduce you to the look of local, and we hope continue to go full steam ahead in this amazing little local market!!

Let’s make this a total Look Of Love, Look Of Local Week!! Let’s rock the house, the dance floor, the community…show your love and your support but placing just one tiny order!! Let’s see if we can beat our record, this week!!! Give me even more to report and speak about on Sunday…as I let my passion shine for all things local!! Let me tell the 200 people about the amazing customer support and how we decided to shatter the ceiling with a new record for this market!!

Local Love…The Look Of Love!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

CSA Farmers Market:  Frost Came and than it was warm

Yep, we had frost and the sweet potatoes came out of the ground just in time. Frost marks the end of many crops that cannot take the cold, basil, tomatoes, peppers and more, unless they were covered or in a hoop-house. Once past that first frost the weather gets warmer and fortunately we are getting a reprieve from the rain, now the large farms that have beans can get on the fields and start harvesting their beans. Farmers are busy putting up fences and the dear are moving into the farmer fields and into the gardens. The dear must have good tastes because this last week they found Laws Romaine lettuce. White Pine Farm has pasture where the cattle are and the dear don’t like to mix with the cattle so they tend to leave the garden alone. Once in awhile we will see tracks and they gleefully nip the tops off the plants.
This time of year the plants get a little weaker so we have to watch them closely for it is more challenging to get the higher quality produce that is easier generally earlier in the season.
We are enjoying this wonderful warm dry spell and so are the yellow jackets.

Until Next Time

South Cumberland Food Hub:  Time to Order Local Food!

Good Morning from the South Cumberland Food Hub.
This week Brown’s Hollar has delicious organically grown turnip greens and hot peppers.

Solace Farm has alot of garlic available and still some organically grown beets.

Winter squashes are appearing but we still have tomatoes, providing this cold weather didn’t frost them out.

Check out the whole list here:

Princeton Farm Fresh:  The Market is Open

Fall is definitely here! I love that we have seasons here in Kentucky. In Georgia we had a long Summer and a short Winter. Fall and Spring lasted only a few weeks, and there was hardly any fall color. We may not have a New England display of color, but for me, it is spectacular.
This week you will find a listing for a Greenhouse building party. I really hope that you can come out an join us. It will be a time to get to know your farm, enjoy community, and eat great food grown right here on our farm. Plus you can visit with the sheep, chickens, and our five Great Pyrenees dogs.
See you on Friday,
Angela
