Group Order : Grass Fed Cheese

Group Order for Grass-fed Cheese This Weekend

This weekend we will be taking orders for grass-fed cheese from Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese and Jason Wiebe Dairy.

Low Temp Pasteurized and Raw Milk Cheeses will be available.

I’ve asked the cheese makers to put “(Raw Milk Cheese)” in the title if it is raw cheese aged 60 days according to FDA regulation. All other cheeses are low temp pasteurized.

Raw milk cheese that is listed on the market is safe for human consumption and is aged at least 60 days per FDA regulation.

Prices and available sizes will be on the market website tomorrow for ordering. The pricing will include shipping and taxes/fees.

The cheese will NOT be available for pick up this Tuesday. Please allow at least 2 weeks. I will email you when it is available for pick up.

  • Cows Raised without synthetic hormones
  • Cows are grass-fed and raised on pasture
  • Old World, Handmade Cheese making Techniques
  • Cheeses made with non-homogenized low temp pasteurized or raw milk and aged at least 60 days to comply with the USDA regulations for raw milk cheese production
  • Vegetable-based rennet, to make it more acceptable to vegetarians
  • Cheeses that are not considered raw are pasteurized at the lowest legal temperature for 15 seconds

See Kenny’s and Jason’s website for more detailed information about their process: http://www.kennysfarmhousecheese.com/

Benefits of Grass-Fed Cheese

  • One of the few foods that contains a perfect balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fats, a ratio ideal for your health
  • Very high in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) In fact, it contains five times more CLA than dairy from grain-fed cows! CLA, which are most abundant in grass-fed products, are among the most potent cancer fighters in all foods.
  • Considerably higher in beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E than cheese and other dairy from grain-fed sources
  • High in the healthy calcium and protein your body needs
  • Free from growth hormones and antibiotics

Pick Up after 5pm

One of our awesome fellow members, Mollie has very graciously offer to pick up members boxes that can’t make by 5pm and bring to her home in Morningview in Suwanee.

Champaign, OH:  I'll Be There For You

It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear…
When it hasn’t been your day, your week
Your month, or even your year…
(The Rembrandts – I’ll Be There For)

So….yeah. It has definitely been a week. Not really sure what has been up with this crazy, irritating, off kilter week but my planets were just not aligning:)

I entered into the week in an almost coma like state, followed by severe irritation, followed by blank stares, blank thoughts, and no desire to be productive. Who AM I???

My usual snappy, peppy, sing songy self was off to the side mocking my evil twin that had taken over.

No clue as to why. No clue as to how it all went down. No clue as to how people even still wanted to be around me:)

But, that is the key that pulled me out of this mid August blasé phase. Friends. And Bread Heads. And fellow members on different boards. And, texts. And, emails that made me smile. And, the thoughtful gift, tonight, from a very special friend/customer. And, a HUGE heartfelt laugh from someone. The kind of laugh that makes you cry and then you keep laughing way after the person made you laugh in the first place. Also, the kindness that I witness in my Cosmic business. The kindness that comes from people who want to reach out, people who do so much, people who have been along for the Cosmic adventure for a very long time.

Why does any of this have to anything to do with our little market of love?

Well, like my week, this market always gets by with a bit of laughter, a bit of kindness, a ton of support, and just knowing that we are all there for the market, makes it such a happy place. Just like me…I am back in my little Cosmic happy place/mood!

Something else that makes me happy is the fact that we have added new vendors to our already bustling market!

First up….we bring you eggs from happy chickens!! We bring you an additional egg vendor from Anchor Acres!! You have to go on and read all about the vendor, her chickens, her eggs!!

Spoonie Farms expands from quail eggs to add farm brown eggs!!

We go through the eggs at this market and our existing egg vendors were feeling the demand. Now, we have egg vendors that can overlap and compliment!!!

Have you taken advantage of the sweet corn?? Make sure to get your orders in while the season is here!! Gregg Farms has amazing corn!!

Produce…get it while it’s here!!

And, garlic…it’s here, it’s now, it’s amazing!!!

And…all the rest….meats, fish, syrup, jams, jellies, traditional baked goods, gluten-free baked goods, vegan/artisan baked goods, herbs, spices, potatoes, greens, soaps, flours, sorghum, coffees, cookies, pastries, pies…it’s all here….

We’ll be there for you….finish the Friends song implant!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

CSA Farmers Market:  Small Farm Clutter

Those that have visited small diversified farms may wonder why they have a collection of junk. Some farms are clean and orderly, but generally those farms are only growing a few crops while others that are more diversified have piles of more equipment here and there (more diversification usually mean more different types of equipment & supplies). Ours is one of those that have piles of stuff here and there. Today Fritz Auction has a trailer outside which is fully loaded with stuff. Some of the stuff that was once considered junk is now considered collectable antiques. Children of depression era parents (me) tend to collect way too much stuff. Farmers with older equipment hang on to other equipment just in case they need to repair their older tractors with parts from other equipment. Most small organic growers don’t make enough to purchase new equipment so they learn to be mechanics as well as farmers; and soon the junk piles up, often a tractor that needs repairs sits in one spot waiting for the farmer to find time to repair it.
Other stuff like the wagon wheels pictured above once were used on the farm generations prior and still remained in the equipment graveyard; now they are being shipped to Fritz Auction to find a new home.
Each time I walk past our junk I sigh wishing to put the stuff in a dumpster, send it to a recycling center, donate it to the thrift shop or to store it again just in case we may need it someday.
A farmer’s dilemma is if today we take the time to do something about the junk the weeds are not getting pulled and the sweet potatoes say please pull the weeds that are choking me. They don’t seem to care about the stuff hiding past their small space. While the weeds are growing, the paper work piles, other garden plots are not getting planted, the yellow jackets are making homes where we don’t want, the rye needs to be combined, the irrigation system is plugging up, the shed where the potato digger is in is still collapsed from the snow, the ground hog is digging under a building, the roof is leaking, and the list goes on each day as we have to prioritize as to what needs more attention and the stuff piles get ignored. Today is different, the stuff piles are going, by removing the clutter we hope it will allow us to focus more on growing and less time moving junk from one spot to the next wishing we had more room.

Until Next Time

Gwinnett Locally Grown:  MARKET IS OPEN FOR ORDERING NOW!

The Market is open Thursday Noon – Monday 9:00 a.m. After that, ordering is disabled until Thursday noon-ish. Pick up your order Tuesday 4:30-6:30 p.m. only at Rancho Alegre Farm at 2225 Givens Road, Dacula, GA 30019. New to The Market? Learn about how it works here.

MARKET NEWSMORE NEW OR NEARLY NEW ITEMS!
Just a quick note today because I’m fighting carbal tunnel and out to buy a new computer desk. I will be more newsy on Sunday :-)

Remember: market hours are only 4:30 to 6:30 – producers are delivering up to 4:30 and I close the doors at 6:30. Think of us as a retail store with set ours – Publix and Kroger only have set hours, even if you order special things. I don’t live at the farm and am only there certain times. I will try to send out Tuesday market reminders early in the day but I might not always get to, so don’t rely solely on me. Thanks for your kind attention to this matter :-)

We hope everybody enjoyed the soap sables from Tuesday from our new vendor! I use them as a facial bar, and they are lasting a long time!

Lisa has lots of pickling cucumbers and onions on market this week. And I was really excited to see spaghetti squash on market. Yum!!!

More later….
