Heirloom Living Market Hamilton Mill:  Have you placed your order? Market Closes at 6:00pm

Market Closes at 6:00pm Today!

Hop on over to the Market and place your order…

At the present time, 3:30pm on Monday, ordering for this week is very low. We must meet minimums with our Farmers and Growers for them to deliver to our Market! Should we not meet the minimums, Market will be cancelled for this week. I will update you after Market closes at 6:00pm!

Take me to the Market.

Thank you for your support!

See you at Market on Wednesday!

Martin's Farmstand:  Cucumbers galore

The online market is open for orders. Between Saturday afternoons picking and this morning it gave 40 pails of cucumbers. How many jars do you think could be filled with pickles with that big pile of cucumbers? I also have plenty of dill.

All the moisture in this last week along with a little cooler weather has made all the lettuce and spinach very nice. Red beets and summer cabbage are also at their prime. This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in Him. Daniel

Heirloom Living Market Hamilton Mill:  Order Before 6:00pm for Wednesday!

Yappy Hour

This week, Thursday evening at 7:00pm the Market is sponsoring Yappy Hour at the Hamilton Mill location.

Karen Jordan, DVM, from Compassionate Care
Veterinary Service will be teaching us how to take better care of our beloved furbabies. She has been serving in veterinary clinics in the Atlanta area for the last 10 years.

Also, fellow Market Member and Hamilton Mill Resident, Elizabeth Ingram, will be sharing healthy homemade doggie recipes and lots of other ways we, as pet parents, can keep our beloved pups in tip-top shape.

Sit, stay, drink and chat over a Mutt-inis (virgin) and
yappy-tizers! It will be a pawsitively good time!

RSVP at activities@hmill.com.
Space is limtied! For humans only!

Highlights for the Week

My Daily Bread has some GREAT Blueberries! These plump little yummy morsels are a perfect snack, go great in smoothies, make wonderful Blueberry muffins and pancakes! Don’t forget to get some to preserve for the winter months when you want to give your family a treat! The Harvest is coming to an end, so be sure and stock up!

Dabrielle has been at it again and created a wonderful, fresh salsa for us! Be sure and get some before it is gone! Not too hot and spicy – just right and so full of fresh, local, organic veggies!

…and all Jams and Jellies are on sale this week. Order the flavor you want and discount will be taken at Market pickup!

Ricky of Back River Farm has Cantaloupe! This melon is by far one of my favorite! He has also added Butternut Squash!

Last week Vicky of Fry Farm sent me some Tango Celery to try before adding it to the Market. So much flavor – for you celery lovers – this is definitely a must have!

Lynda at B & G has listed Chicken Feet for those of you who make Bone Broth! I got some last week and they were cooked with Necks and Backs for some wonderful, nutrient-dense Bone Broth!

I am sure that I have missed some highlights from other Farmers – so take a careful look and get your orders in before 6:00pm today, Monday!

I wish you all a happy day and a wonderful week! I will see you at Market!

I discovered a blog by Eric Garza, on nutrition science that looks mighty helpful trying to figure how how to eat the best you can on your budget.

www.howericlives.com is the site.
An excerpt:
“I touched on the health consequences of relying on poor quality foods in Treating Food as an Investment, and have long been an advocate of eating nutrient dense foods. The challenge, of course, is convincing people that nutrient dense foods are affordable, as most people think in terms of cost per pound rather than cost per calorie, an issue I noted in my previous post Making Good Food Affordable. I readily acknowledge that there’s more to the idea of nutrient density than calorie content, so this Aug 3rd post will be the first in a series that looks at other nutritional elements of food, beginning with Vitamin A.”

http://www.howericlives.com/investing-in-nutrient-dense-food-vitamin-a/

A couple of sentences from his bio:

“In 2007 I entered a doctoral program at the University of Vermont under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Costanza, co-founder of the discipline of ecological economics. My doctoral work immersed me in systems theory, energy systems modeling and bioenergy systems.”

“Since graduating I’ve eschewed tenure track positions within academia and instead have taken on the mantle of entrepreneur, working with a range of partners on a variety of research and educational projects, teaching classes and offering workshops and lectures. When I’m not ‘working’ you’ll often find me hunting, fishing, foraging for wild edible and medicinal plants,”

“I also lead the Burlington Chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation, serve on the UVM Food Systems Initiative Steering Committee and the Farm to Plate Initiative’s Energy Cross Cutting Team, and volunteer for various non-profits that support sustainable food production.”

Princeton Farm Fresh:  The Market is Open

This week is National Farmers Market Week.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack declared August 3rd through 9th of 2014 National Farmers Market Week to bring attention to the nation’s more than 8,100 farmers markets, the farmers who make them possible and the communities that host them. Isn’t it amazing that we have so many farmers markets? Buying fresh food from your local farmers market does more than impact your personal health—that purchase supports the livelihood of local farmers, your local economy and environment. Farmers markets are strengthening communities and shifting the whole food system in a positive direction.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our community of Princeton for supporting our endeavors to bring you fresh, local food year round.
See you on Friday,
Angela
