Conyers Locally Grown:  Turkeys available

I just got a call from a farmer in south GA that has some heritage turkeys available. He has them leftover from a contract that was canceled. He has 100+.
They are going to weigh in at 22lbs+.
They are currently live and will be processed to order.

To make it work we would need to order at least 30 or more.

He is offering a special price of $2.50 per lb. I would have to add a pick up fee since I will have to hire a driver to go get them. I am thinking about 7.50 to $10.00 per bird. That would make them about $65.00 each.

They are pasture raised and he also makes his own feed. They are not organic but he does not use growth hormones, antibiotics or artificial feeds.

If you are interested please let me know as soon as possible so we can try and put together a plan.

Plattsburgh Online Ordering:  Last order for three weeks

This Saturday is the last farmers market for three weeks. We will offer online ordering with delivery into Plattsburgh or pickup at Rehoboth Homestead between the monthly markets that will be the 2nd Saturdays of January, February, March, and April.

Rehoboth Homestead will have eggs self-serve on their front porch at all times, and you can call (643-7822) or email if you want chicken or duck put in the porch freezer for you to pick up.

So, stock up a little. Have a great (if dreary looking) week.

ALFN Local Food Club:  Market Closes Tomorrow

Good Morning Locavores!
A bright, brisk wind this day’s commencement. Perfect for taking the recycling out.
The Market closes tomorrow. One more day to get your order in before two agonizing weeks of absence. Won’t you need eggs and breakfast sausage for your holiday mornings? Won’t you need Rudolph-esque red tomatoes, organic and locally grown?
We WILL be juicing this Saturday. $2 a cup, $1 if you use your own Food Club produce.
Josh Hardin of Laughing Stock Farms will also join us with his organic snow peas, rainbow carrots, fennel, etc., as well as Hardin Farms’ pecans.

Christmas week I will have a market on the Thursday as usual.

Greens are holding well in the greenhouse because of the mild weather, lots of lettuce, mizuna , parsley and kale.

I’ll continue the ‘buy two get one free’ special on eggs this week, since lots of people are into Xmas baking.

Christmas approaches, and we have an important announcement: As Monday night is Christmas Eve, we are changing our Monday pickup time to Sunday, 4:30-6. We hope that works for your schedule. If not, Saturday is still an option!

  • Thanks to Ray Wunderlich III for bringing a brand new, local community garden to our Market. Ray is responsible for managing production of organically grown, chemical-free vegetables from the Pioneer Settlement Garden located at Boyd Hill Preserve in St. Petersburg. The Garden is a unique, inclusive educational/community based, chemical-free and organically grown vegetable garden and nursery. Welcome and thank you for coming on board!
  • We also welcome Cindy Tyson who is offering star fruit through our Market’s new outlet dubbed St. Pete Fruit Stand. This outlet will serve as a seasonal grower spot when it just doesn’t make sense for someone to sign up as a full-time Grower. They will still get the glory for providing the fruit by having their name posted with the product description and on the Fruit Stand grower page. We hope this will encourage those of you with abundant fruit trees to consider selling your overage through our Market.

    Details are on Calendar of Events. This will be held every Second Saturday of the month and is open to the public. We will be asking for RSVP’s to determine whether or not to hold each monthly class. Bring your friends and save $10 each on this valuable experience! You can now pre-purchase this workshop on our Market. This class makes a great gift for any occasion!
    We will begin holding potluck socials on the 4th Saturday of each month, starting January 26, 2013. These events will be held exclusively for actively participating Market customers, growers, and volunteers and are meant to create a social atmosphere in which to network, share resources and experiences. Each event will include a brief informational lecture on subjects relevant to our group, including community building, growing and preparing food, health practices, to name a few. Presenters for the January potluck are Clark & Peggy Tibbits on “Intentional Community Living: 30 Years Experience”. An invitation to attend has been sent via Evite and RSVPs are being requested.
