Local Farms First:  Last day to order local! Applesauce!

Greetings local food lovers!

Applesauce is a great solution to preserving the last of the season’s apples!

Still some apples left on the market

Simply quarter them up and simmer in liquid (like a gallon of Delicious Orchard’s cider , cinnamon & spices and lemon juice.

When the apples are soft, mash them up or process in a food processor for a smoother finish.

Thanks for supporting local family farms!

Shoestring Acres:  WEEK TWENYT -THREE

Time to look at those warm comfort food menus…baked squash, pumpkin goodies and savory stews. I realized last week how much warmer you farther east so you don’t have quite our lower temperatures.
Broccoli -roasted with lemon, cauliflower-and cheddar soup, just some of the late season goodies.
As you may notice eggs are limited in availability..the americanas have gone into winter mode of low production and the brown eggs are also limited.
There are some tomatoes and peppers still available.

Stone County, AR:  It's Market Time!

Hi, Everyone!

It’s Market Time again! The Online Market is your best bet for purchasing locally -grown and -made products coming straight from local growers.

Even though the spring/summer produce season is behind us, you never know what might appear. Stay tuned, in touch, and informed…and, SHOP LOCAL whenever possible!

ALFN Local Food Club:  Location, Location

Location.
Good morning everyone.
The Market is open. I’d like to thank everyone for giving us some of the biggest weeks in sales that we’ve seen all season. I’m sure it has everything to do with the fact that our market is still bursting. It’s like the hard, drought-ridden summer never happened. We are, once again, abundant.
We should also feel grateful that we are in Little Rock. Beyond the simple truth of Little Rock’s hidden greatness, this city enjoys a thriving local food scene. Perhaps the most thriving in Arkansas. Besides benefiting from a multitude of farms, produce, and meat, we have an unbelievable energy for food. People are engaged; potential stretches out in every direction. We love our own communities and the things that grown from them. So, while the market is packed right now with local fare, it’s equally filled by your energy and enthusiasm. Here is the proof that buying locally makes a serious impact: look around you. Look at all the markets, the events, the people, the ideas that have sprouted in the last few years, as more of us reinvest in our own community. If location is so important, I’d say that we’ve all landed in the right spot.
Some things to note:
Farm Girl has added pasture-raised chickens to their repertoire
*Kent Walker has added a new Muenster style cheese

Plenty of live plants from ABC Greenhouse, Drewry Farm, Willow Spring, and Tammu Sue
A heckuva lot of vegetables
Arkansas Black Apples
Let’s enjoy another week of full grocery bags!
Sincerely,
Sam Hedges

Farm Tour

What: Seminole Springs Antique Rose and Herb Farm

When: Sunday, November 11, 2012 @ 10 a.m. until 12 noon

Where: Eustis, FL

(an hour’s drive from downtown Orlando)

We will meet once again in Eustis, FL to visit with a third grower, Seminole Springs Antique Rose and Herb Farm, who partners with Homegrown. While we are there, Farmer Traci Anderson will take us on a tour of this family run nursery, and provide us with a mini workshop on growing and using herbs.

Handouts will be included, so, be certain to make a reservation <eeant@mac.com> since space is limited. For those that like active participation mixed with comedy, Traci will give us an opportunity to keep up with the potting machine conveyor belt.

After the tour, participants are invited to picnic on the grounds, visit the gift shed, and share a glass of herb tea. As this is Veteran’s Day, please, feel free to invite a Veteran in your life to attend this farm tour as your guest.

To make a reservation for you and/or any accompanying guests, please contact: Jackie McFadden, eeant@mac.com, 404-571-9602, or sign-up at the Homegrown Store.
