The Cumming Harvest:  Farmer of the Day

Good News!

We have B&B Enterprises coming to the market on Saturday to be the Farmer of the Day. Come by and try the many varieties of honey he has for sale. He has a wealth of honey knowledge, you’re sure to leave knowing more than before. :)

New Field Farm's Online Market:  last order

PICK-UP for the last order will be NEXT WEDNESDAY 11/14 at the same time and places as usual – both the farm and Union Mill. ORDERS CAN BE PLACED anytime between now and Tuesday 11/13 at 8:00.

I’ll send out a reminder email this Sunday. Let me know if you have any questions.

There’s not too much to order, but I thought we would have one last go-round.

I can’t do an order this week because the water line to the wash shed is frozen. Next week is supposed to be milder.

We’ve harvested the last of the cabbage, gathered up the remaining onions from their curing racks, and put several layers of row cover over the carrots. Leeks and kale are still out in the field. The deer are starting to nibble on the kale which seems to be one sign that they know what’s coming. They always leave it alone until there’s not much else to choose from on the farm. Or maybe they just prefer it after it’s been through some hard frosts.

Also, the garlic has been planted, cover crops sown, irrigation lines put away, and soon the greenhouse and hoop house will be cleaned out and closed up for the winter. We have a wonderfully large pile of wood chips from the people clearing limbs for PSNH which will get spread as mulch on the blueberries this fall or in the spring.

After everything has been cleaned up and put away – let it snow.

Potato Kale Hash
by: Christine Macauley of Flying Dog Farm

Potatoes, grated
Coconut oil
onion, grated
salt and pepper
kale, stems removed
Worcestershire sauce
1 egg

Saute grated potatoes in your oil of choice (I like coconut) together with some grated onion, salt and pepper. When potatoes are soft, add lots of chopped fresh kale. Pile it high and cover the potatoes, it will shrink a LOT. Stir and cook on medium heat until potatoes start to brown. Sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce and quickly reduce and incorporate the Worcestershire before serving.
Optional: Pile them up in the middle of the pan. Break an egg on top and mix it in, forming a sort of hash brown patty held together by the egg as it cooks. Now you have a complete meal in one pan! Yum.

Conway, AR:  Vote With Your Fork

Greetings Conway Locally Grown Community!
It’s election day, and as members of a democratic society we have the privilege of voting for our leaders, but filling out a ballot is not the only way we vote. We vote every day with the decisions we make on how to spend our time, energy, and money. I would like to remind everyone today that local food is nonpartisan. Fresh, natural, and wholesome food does not lean to the left, right, or any other direction, but it does support our right to good health, our right to a clean environment, and our right to make a living for ourselves producing honest, sustainable food. Remember that when you support Conway Locally Grown, you are voting for an alternative food system that increases the quality of life in central Arkansas. If I don’t inspire you, here’s an old article by Michael Pollan on “Voting With Your Fork”
The market closes tonight at 10pm. Go to to place your VOTE. Remember to hit the checkout button when you are done, and you will receive a confirmation email when your order is placed.
Have a great day!
-Gabe Levin
