<p>Classic Southern Cornbread is best made with a cast iron skillet. Let the skillet warm up in the oven and melt some butter in it so that a nice crust will form. Some versions of this recipe use bacon drippings instead of or in addition to the butter. Step by Step Instructions
- Preheat cast iron skillet to 400 degrees and melt butter or bacon drippings.
- In large bowl, mix dry ingredients, then add in buttermilk and egg. Mix batter and pour into hot greased skillet.
- Bake for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
