Market News

THANK YOU! We would like to thank Nick Tanner of Cherry Street Brewery for their generous donation to the market. Back in March they hosted us at their Last Tuesday Beer Bash event and raised money from that nights sales. We really appreciate the support from Rick Tanner’s and Cherry Street Brewery!

UPDATE CONTACT With all the hustle and bustle of back-to-school and new routines, it’s easy to forget things like picking up your TCH order. Remember that we can’t keep your items past 12pm, and we’ll try contacting you any way we know how to make sure you get what you ordered. Now’s a great time to check the phone number on your account to make sure it’s a number I can reach you at 11:45am on a Saturday. I start calling everyone who hasn’t picked up yet then, and will keep trying to reach you until 12pm, when we have to pack it all up. I hate seeing people’s food go somewhere else, and having a good phone number on your account is the best way to keep that from happening.

DELIVERY – We are postponing Vickery pick up and delivery in September so that Pascale can take some much needed time off to celebrate her and her husbands birthday’s and anniversary. If you see her this week, you can pass on good wishes and we’ll resume October 3rd.

BUFFALO JOES RECIPE Shalley Carrell
We made this at our most recent annual Labor Day farm open house/party, to do something a little different than burgers, and it was a huge hit!

Serves: 4

Ingredients
1 pound water buffalo ground
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1/4 cup bell pepper, chopped
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup
1 Tbl brown sugar (optional)
to taste sea salt & freshly ground black pepper
2 or 3 Tbl coconut, safflower, butter, or olive oil

Step by Step Instructions

Saute onions and bell peppers in oil over medium heat until slightly soft
Add ground buffalo and cook until just brown.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low for 30 minutes.
Serve with a roll or bun of your choice.

Martin's Farmstand:  watermelons are ripe!

There is so much food coming from the gardens today- Will the eaters be able to eat most of it?

The sweet corn is back in abundance. The next 5 patches of sweet corn look like they are going to ripen in perfect timing so I think there should be an unbroken supply of corn for the next 2-3 weeks and may be longer. We are only half done picking todays tomatoes and there is 20 crates already. We will have canners for sale as soon as we get them sorted.

Now the high light! Our homegrown yellow watermelons are ready. There is also lots of cantalope and a few red watermelon. They are so sweet with a rich flavor. Did you know that in breeding for the seedless traits that you find in many of the store watermelons that they also lost a lot of the flavor. We use low tech organic type methods to grow our melons, I believe that this along with the cooler weather of the north also is a large factor in top flavor. Daniel

GFM :  Watermelon, Cantaloupe and More

Our online market doesn’t have everything. But you can shop our physical market on Saturday August 27th, and every Saturday till the end of October and get watermelon, cantaloupe, potatoes, corn and more. We are also open on Wednesdays till Sept. 2nd, from 3 to 6 pm.

We are under the AJ Pavilion for a couple of weeks. So if you can’t find what you want here then come to the market to see us in person.

Thank you,
The Vendors

Tell your friends about us so we can keep the Growers supported as this is how they make their living.

Princeton Farm Fresh:  The Market is Open

We have been enjoying the Okra this month. Ours is really coming in hot and heavy. It is amazing to me how tall these plants get. I go from bending over to harvest them to needing one the boys to go pick because they are over my head these days. I thought I would include the recipe for Lady and Son’s Okra today. It is a comfort food in our home, and I hope it will become in yours too.
Ingredients
4 slices bacon, diced into small pieces
1 small onion, peeled and chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
1 tablespoon chicken base
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups fresh okra, cut into 1-inch pieces (may use frozen, if fresh not available)
Fresh ground black pepper
Directions
Cook bacon slightly. Saute onion and garlic with bacon until tender. Add tomatoes, chicken base, sugar and pepper. Stir well and let simmer for about 20 minutes. Adjust seasoning if needed. Meanwhile wash okra and remove fuzz if using fresh and cut into pieces. Add the okra and simmer until okra is done, about 20 more minutes (less if using frozen okra.)

Recipe courtesy of Paula Deen
I look forward to seeing everyone on Friday,
Angela
