Champaign, OH:  Whatever Gets You...

Whatever gets you through the night
It’s alright, alright
It’s your money or your life
It’s alright, alright…
(John Lennon – Whatever Get’s You Through)

I am late, late, late for a very important….market opening!! I am so very sorry but when I left the market, I had a long, much needed, regrouping/venting conversation with a good friend/amazing vendor, and there are just times, where you just put a friend, in front of all things.

We have been friends for a long while, I respect her, she respects me, we have built our businesses almost side by side but by different means, different directions.

In the early days, we were just trying to make it all work, trying to find our places in this little local world. We shared tears, we shared laughter, we shared countless, countless bottles of wine. We planned, we dreamed, we worked with each other, and we helped each other. Those days were long, the hours tremendous, the joy, well, not always. Not like it is today. We were just building the love of our customers. One tiny, little customer base at a time. We have come so far, worked so hard, said hello to so many dreams, and have so many more tricks up our sleeves.

So, tonight, it just meant a lot, to have a long conversation, to revisit, to just relive those long days/nights where we all just helped each other get through it all.

Loyalty…I posted a simple quote of this word, this morning, on my personal Facebook page. Loyalty in friendship and in business. I had no idea it would speak to so many friends. But, it did. A small word, a simple thought, but an entire world in it’s meaning.

Just like an old, treasured friendship that we are all loyal to, I feel this loyalty spilling into our little local market. The friendships of customers and vendors, the loyalty in the bonds we are building, and the solid foundation that comes from so many of these building blocks.

Tonight, I open the market and I am smiling at the loyalty that you all show us and the loyalty that we feel towards you, the customers.

We are so happy to be whatever gets you through your week, your day, or your night…we appreciate each of you!!

Just a quick note!!! This week is the market right before the July 4th holiday!! Think about all that you will need for grilling, entertaining, serving desserts, fruits, veggies…whatever your holiday needs may be, I feel that we have it all for you!!

As always…we thank you for keeping it all local and for showing us that loyal local love.

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Gwinnett Locally Grown:  MARKET NEWS: POUND CAKE IS BACK & VEGGIE, HERBS & FRUIT UPDATES

The Market is open Thursday Noon – Monday 9:00 a.m. After that, ordering is disabled until Thursday noon-ish. Pick up your order Tuesday 4:30-6:30 p.m. only at Rancho Alegre Farm at 2225 Givens Road, Dacula, GA 30019. New to The Market? Learn about how it works here.

MARKET NEWS
If you ordered through market a few weeks ago when we were giving out samples of pound cake, and had some on hand to sell, you will be ultra-pleased to find that we will have them again as a “shelf” item (meaning available as an add-on item during pick-up but not listed on the market website.) Ellen has expanded her offerings in time for the Fourth of July. These freeze exceptionally well, I’ve been told; sadly, I gobble mine down (with a little help from my husband) before any intended party date ever arrives. These are “real” pound cakes with real butter and free-range eggs from her farm. Decadent is hardly an apt word (just my humble opinion, lol!)

Traditional: (Large loaves $12.00)
Classic Vanilla
Lavender Vanilla
Salted Caramel
Lemon and Toasted Coconut

Gluten-Free (Baby Cake size – feeds 2-4 price $8.00)
Classic Vanilla
Salted Caramel

For those of you who are new to our market, we ocassionally have items for sale at pick-up that aren’t listed on the website. The purchase can be added to your order, even if you paid online.

VEGGIE & HERB NEWS
We are able to offer lettuces, radishes and kale further into the season than other markets because Leah Lake Farm is located up in the mountains so they have a slightly cooler growing season. (My apologies in my conversations where I said they are located in South Carolina – they are in North Carolina. Lettuce “bolts” or starts to form seed heads when it gets hot, so I don’t know how much longer lettuce will be available. Visit their website here.

Lisa from Bo & Lisa’s Lil’ Patch is starting to have some herbs, veggies and fruits coming on, but it may be a couple weeks before they have ample supplies of blackberries, beans, tomatoes and beets. Their blueberries are very happy and producing well and haven’t even needed organic pest control this year! This may be the last week they have garlic scapes available…

Back River Farm has rejoined us for the season and has summer squash, two kinds of turnips, arugula and red potatoes. If you are using the turnips for their greens, I suggest picking your order up as close to 4:30 as possible because it is supposed to be 95 degrees Tuesday. I’m thinking I’m not going to be the only thing in the store wilting!!!

Rancho Alegre has lemon balm, parsley and spearmint on the market, and will probably have additional herbs next week.

Duck eggs: Sally from Treffynnon Farm is teaching this summer so she won’t be able to deliver more duck eggs. We only have two cartons of the half-dozen duck eggs left. Lisa from Bo & Lisa’s may have duck eggs later, but the weather may get too hot, so we’re not sure yet. Sally’s eggs are an add-on and not listed on market, so first-come, first serve.

Enjoy your shopping! Be sure to pick up brochures about our market when you come Tuesday to share with your friends, family, co-workers, and random people on the street :-)
