What a nice week we are supposed to have. I am excited, because this week will also be the second week that the Traditional Caldwell County Farmers Market is OPEN. We have extended our hours from 4-7pm every Thursday through Sept 15th. We have 9 regular farmers/Growers that have signed up and will have a few more that pop in and out throughout the summer as they have items available. All of these farmers are from right here in our local area. So I hope to see you on Thursday and Friday this week,
Angela

Cause’ I’m a picker…
I’m a grinner…
I’m a lover…
And I’m a sinner…
Playin’ my music in the sun…
(Joker-Steve Miller Band)

I woke up, this morning, with summer days on my brain, humming this song, and looking forward to this season of open air markets, festivals, events, and of course soaking in the sun, the fun, and the summer evenings…

This song used to always signal summer fun, to me, when I was growing up. It was playing in my head, this morning, and it made me smile as I began to think about this little local market of love…

At this market, we like the ease, the love, the goodness of all that our local summers have to offer. We are cruisin’ into the produce with each passing week, there is a certain liveliness, lightness, loveliness that only the summer months bring to us, that no other season can duplicate.

Let our market add to your own lightness of the season. Do your shopping with us, ease up your time spent in the big box stores, feel good knowing that you can trust your food, and show your own local community some love but purchasing with us…

This little local market is no joke…we want to show you a real good time…

Today is Monday, and you have until tomorrow evening to get your orders placed…

Lovey dovey, lovey dovey all the time…

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam

Market News

The town has slowed to a crawl, and it seems like my Facebook feed is a non-stop slideshow of photos of people on vacation. I’m still here, working, tending my garden, and enjoying everything going just a little bit slower than it had been. If you’re still in town, I look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

Tink over at Tink’s Grassfed Beef let me know about a dinner and class coming up, featuring her beef on June 25th. It’s going to be held at Southern Scratch, in Washington, and taught by Kathryn there. Long-time ALG members might remember Kathryn and her wonderful items when she was just starting out, and her food has only gotten better since then. Appetizers start at 6:30, Class starts at 7:00pm. The cost is $80/person or $150/couple. “Come learn how to purchase and prepare grass fed beef. Tink Wade will be our special guest discussing which cuts to use for what as well as preparation and cooking techniques for a meal that your guests will swoon over. Class includes a 5 course meal, recipes and the opportunity to purchase meat. Classes are BYOB and the full menu will be sent to you ahead of the class so that you can pair your favorite wine or beer. Space is limited. Sign up by emailing scratchbaking@gmail.com or come by the shop.”

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!
