Cedar Grove Farm:  Cedar Grove Farm CSA Availability for 5/28

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Sorry we are a little late tonight. We just finished a great dinner with Josh and Arielle from Savory Spoon in Jefferson. If you get a chance you should definitely check out Savory Spoon if for no other reason than what they do with the fresh produce from Cedar Grove Farm. Caitlyn is in Massachusetts this weekend being a Maid of Honor for her best friend since grade school, so I’m back with the announcement tonight.

The CSA is open. New this week are dill, cauliflower, Zephyr squash and Formosa savoy cabbage plus lots of the great tasting spring produce still coming in.

Enjoy the harvest.

Regards, Farmer jay

DeForest, WI:  Market opening Monday Morning

The Market will be opening Monday morning, May 26.

Enjoy a safe Memorial Day!

Joyful Noise Acres Farm:  Market closes at 8:00pm Monday

A wonderful Memorial Day to you. This is such a special day to stop and think of all the freedom we have and those we have lost in the fight to preserve it. If you have served, thank you, if you have a loved one that serves or has served thank them.

We are so excited to see the market offerings increasing as we add new growers and producers. Please look for the new items under “What’s new”. We have so many delicious vegetables this week. *Georgia Farm to Table *has some add on items for your boxes. Also, Christy wanted me to remind you that you can always exchange items in the box if there is something being offered that week that you don’t normally eat. If you ever have questions about how to cook a certain vegetable, please look under our recipe section or e-mail the grower. They eat more veggies than anyone!

*Cedar Rock Dairy *continues to provide the best pet milk ever… my last jar had a least 3 inches of cream on top. One of our dear customers has 3 Anatolian Shepherds, these are big dogs. She said they stand waiting when she opens the fridge so they can get their share of milk. This is good stuff!

The countdown continues for chicken. Joyful Noise Acres Farm should have some next week, YEA! Stay tuned.

Y’all, have a great day and rest in the blessings of our wonderful nation.

See you Wednesday,
Mary Beth

Berea Gardens:  Post-holiday Harvest

We have added some very nice red cabbage to the list this week. It is very sweet and makes wonderful coleslaw with the added antioxidants and vitamins of a red cabbage variety. Have a great week!

Blessings,
Bob

Heirloom Living Market Lawrenceville :  Countdown to Close

The Market will remain open until 10:00pm this evening!

In the Newsletter, I try and mention what the Farmers and Artisans are up to and their current offerings! I was gently reminded today that I seem to leave out both Sam of Cedar Rock Dairy and Rusty of Little Tot’s Estate. These two gentlemen provide one of the biggest staples of the Market! Our Raw Milk for our Pets! I humbly beg their forgiveness and I will be sure to include news about them and about their Farms in future editions of the Newsletter!

In the mean time…

got milk???

Please get your orders placed as soon as possible!

Thanks and have a wonderful Memorial Day!

~Maryanne

Recipes

Spaghetti with Braised Kale
from Molly Weizenberg in Bon Appetit

1 pound lacinato kale (about 2 bunches), large center ribs and stems removed, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch slices 3 tablespoons olive oil, divided 1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1 1/2 cups) 8 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced 1/2 pound spaghetti 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice Finely grated Parmesan cheese

preparation

Rinse kale. Drain; transfer to bowl with some water still clinging.

Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in heavy large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, stirring occasionally, about 6 minutes. Add sliced garlic and sprinkle with salt; cook until onion is golden brown, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Add kale and remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil and toss until wilted, about 3 minutes. Cover pot and reduce heat to medium-low. Continue cooking until kale is very tender, stirring occasionally and adding water by teaspoonfuls if dry, about 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook spaghetti in medium pot of boiling salted water until tender but still firm to bite, stirring occasionally. Drain, reserving 1/4 cup cooking liquid. Add cooked spaghetti to kale mixture in pot. Add lemon juice and 2 tablespoons reserved cooking liquid; toss to combine, adding more liquid by tablespoonfuls if dry. Sprinkle spaghetti with grated Parmesan cheese and serve.

Market News

Hello!

This Wednesday there will be a Memorial Service being held at Trinity Church before and during pick up hours. Because of the need for parking for the service, we will move our spot to lower in the parking lot, closer to the road immediately on the left when you pull into the lot off of Sharondale. It is the spot that used to be the home of the Johnny Howell produce tent. We will set up there for this week only. Unfortunately, it also looks like weather could be very wet on Wednesday, so we may be distributing your bags out of the back of our vans. We apologize ahead of time for any chaos or confusion, and appreciate your flexibility and patience!

We are pleased and excited to have The Peach Truck with us every Wednesday now on through the summer! We invited them to set up next to us so that you would have easy access to their wonderful, Georgia grown peaches. While these peaches are not local and are not organic, the farm and Peach Truck are a family run business that uses low-spray and best practice agriculture techniques.

We know you have a lot of options these days when shopping for local produce. We really appreciate your support of Fresh Harvest, and do our best to provide you with a great selection of the freshest organically grown produce you can find anywhere. Please know the best way you can support us small local farmers is by eating A LOT of vegetables during your week! Not only does it make for better sales for all us farmers, it helps keep you – our dear customers – healthy and happy. We all win!

Once again, thanks so much for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

John and Tallahassee

She’s Back – News from Lydia at Grandmother Mountain Organics

After having taken a year off for baby raising, we have a few organic strawberry and blackberry plants for sale. Flats of strawberry plants or 6 packs, or potted (in a reused pot, with compost) thornless blackberry plants.
